President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) has fulfilled his commitment to Nigerian students by officially signing the student loan bill into law. This legislation ensures that financially disadvantaged Nigerian students in educational institutions can access interest-free loans.
During his campaign in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, prior to the elections, President Tinubu pledged to enact a credit loan facility for students if elected. Today, he has honored that promise by signing the bill into law. The legislation, which was passed by the national assembly in November 2022, was sponsored by Femi Gbajabiamila, the immediate-past speaker of the House of Representatives.
In a statement to reporters, Mr. Dele Alake, the leader of the President’s media team, emphasized that the new law does not contribute to the inflation of school fees. He clarified that these two issues are unrelated. The primary objective of the law is to assist financially disadvantaged students in obtaining education within the country.
Bayo Onanuga, the President’s former campaign media aide, also confirmed the development through a post on his Twitter profile. He expressed that President Tinubu has indeed delivered on his promise to Nigerian students by enacting the interest-free loan bill, which will greatly benefit indigent students.
