Following deadly attacks on Zikke and Kimakpa communities in Bassa Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang held an emergency state security council meeting on Monday to address the escalating violence. The meeting, convened at the Government House in Jos, focused on the resurgence of attacks in Bassa and Bokkos LGAs, aiming to restore peace and prevent further bloodshed.
Governor Mutfwang reported that over 100 militiamen invaded the communities on Monday morning, killing 51 people and razing several houses. “We are on top of the situation and will go to any length to forestall a recurrence,” he assured residents, adding that he would provide further details in a broadcast on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
Wakili Tongwe, a leader in the Kwall community, recounted that the attackers struck early Monday, shooting sporadically as residents fled. A vigilante team and security personnel, who were patrolling elsewhere, engaged the invaders and repelled them, but not before 36 people were shot dead, with four others succumbing later. Several residents sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving treatment.
The attack follows another deadly incident less than two weeks ago, where 52 people were killed in Bokkos LGA. Security agencies have yet to comment on Monday’s violence.
