In a recent development, Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has taken the decision to extend his medical leave and has communicated this through a letter to the State House of Assembly.
The extension of the medical leave comes after the governor’s doctors advised him on the importance of adequate rest following his recovery. In line with Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), Governor Akeredolu’s action has been acknowledged by the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji.
According to the letter, during this extended leave, Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa will continue to serve as the acting governor until a written declaration stating otherwise is provided.
Governor Akeredolu had initially informed the House of his decision to proceed on medical leave in a letter dated June 5, 2023, with the expectation of resuming his duties on July 6, 2023.
This update ensures continuity in government leadership and allows Governor Akeredolu to prioritize his recovery and well-being while entrusting the responsibilities of governance to his capable deputy.
