The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has advised President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action in addressing the challenges that have arisen as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy. While commending the decision to remove the subsidy as a positive step, the NBA emphasizes the need for measures to mitigate the impact on the populace, given the existing infrastructural deficits and heavy reliance on petroleum products for various sectors.

In a congratulatory message to President Tinubu, NBA President Yakubu Maikyau expressed the urgency of implementing policies that would alleviate the consequences of the subsidy removal. The NBA highlighted the importance of cushioning the effects on the economy and the welfare of the people before the positive outcomes of the decision could be realized.

Maikyau reminded President Tinubu of his commitment to invest in transportation infrastructure, education, power supply, healthcare, and other public utilities, and stressed the need to ensure that the suffering and hardships faced by the people are not overlooked. The NBA emphasized that the pain experienced by the citizens should not be in vain and called for tangible measures to improve their quality of life.

The NBA’s advice to President Tinubu underscores the importance of addressing the challenges associated with subsidy removal and prioritizing the well-being of the Nigerian population. It urges the government to implement policies that will alleviate the impact and ensure that the positive effects of the decision are felt by all sectors of society.
