Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has achieved a remarkable feat by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time during her cook a thorn event.

On Monday, Hilda surpassed the previous record of 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 seconds set by Chef Lata Tondon in Rewa, India, in 2019. The Hilda cook a thorn event commenced on Thursday, May 11, at 4 PM, despite the rainy weather in Amore Gardens, Lekki, Lagos.

Numerous Nigerians, including notable figures such as actor Charles Okocha, actress Kate Henshaw, singer Tiwa Savage, and media personality Enioluwa, braved the rain to support and cheer on Hilda during the event. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Margret Obi, the wife of the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, also paid visits to the venue on Sunday to show their encouragement.

There has been curiosity among Nigerians and other observers about the financial reward associated with breaking a Guinness World Record. However, it is important to note that contrary to popular belief, entering the Guinness Book of World Records does not come with any economic or financial compensation.

Guinness World Records explicitly states that neither record breakers nor those who set new records are financially rewarded.

The primary role of the institution is to celebrate excellence, inspire people, entertain and inform, without providing financial incentives or covering any expenses for record attempts.

While Guinness World Records does not provide funding or equipment for record attempts, many record holders often secure advertisers or sponsors who support them financially during their preparation. These external sources of funding contribute to the successful realization of their record-breaking endeavors.

Even though she achieved the remarkable feat, it is important to note that Guinness World Records is yet to make an official declaration regarding Hilda Baci’s record-breaking accomplishment. According to Guinness World Records, the process of reviewing the documentation and confirming whether the record attempt has been accepted as the new record holder or rejected can take up to 12 weeks.
