A pro-democracy group has defended the recent appointments made by President Bola Tinubu, saying it is almost impossible for a single tribe to dominate over 6,000 offices in federal government ministries, departments, and agencies.
In the past few weeks, social media and online platforms have been awash with concerns from critics that the present administration is tilting towards nepotism and favouritism in appointing officials for political offices.
Four days ago, another organisation under the umbrella of the Human Rights Writers Association had voiced the same concern when it claimed Tinubu’s nomination of Olayemi Cardoso to serve as the substantive governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria hours after appointing Zachaeus Adedeji as acting chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service appeared to be pushing an unseemingly pro-ethnic agenda
But The Natives think otherwise, stressing that the president has been fair in his appointments and has expressed willingness to go the extra mile to implement any move that will actualise the ‘Renewed Hope’ he promised Nigerians.
A statement issued in Abuja by the Coordinator of the group, Smart Edwards disclosed that every Nigerian should be proud of what Tinubu and Vice President, Kashim Shettima, have accomplished in his first 100 days in office.
He said, “There is no such thing as Yorubanization. It is not like anything in the past. It’s a government of competence, excellence, and balance. No one tribe, region, or religion can truly fill over 6,000 vacant appointments. All that is needed in this era is hope, renewed hope.
“We want to see all regions, religions, tribes, and communities involved in governance today. President Tinubu has demonstrated that by appointing competence and fairness. Whether in the paramilitary military, security agencies, economic and strategic political offices, he is making a major statement.
“Can you fathom a young lady emerging as minister of youth, a known EndSars promoter in the same plane with President Tinubu being made Minister of Digital Economy or better still, former Governor Nyesom Wike being placed in Charge of the FCT?
“We are encouraged that Southern Kaduna oversees our Defense and a Fulani man is in charge of our national security, we can see the importance of new ways. So, we urge your excellency to also summon the courage to continue to make history and impact when you further appoint rare Nigerians into offices, as you did in FCT, CDS, NSA, Customs, Education, and Youths amongst others, giving a sense of balance and fairness.”
