The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has been suspended following allegations of sexual harassment by a senior female official, Engr. Folasade Adebayo. The suspension, effective immediately, was prompted by the intervention of the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who rejected the university’s Governing Council Committee’s initial decision to exonerate Fasina and demand an apology from Adebayo.
Sources revealed that Alausa expressed strong disapproval of the committee’s attempt to dismiss Adebayo’s claims. After the minister’s intervention, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, Chairman of the Governing Council, convened an emergency virtual meeting on Monday, April 14, 2025. The Council resolved to remove Fasina, allowing him to proceed on accumulated annual and research leave rather than face outright suspension, with his tenure set to end in August.
The university’s Registrar, Mufutau A. Ibrahim, confirmed in a statement that Fasina’s leave, covering 126 working days of his 228-day entitlement, began on April 14, 2025. The Governing Council appointed Professor Samuel Olubunmi Shittu, a Professor of Soil Science and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), as Acting Vice-Chancellor for six months, effective immediately.
