The Nigerian government has set a February 17, 2025, deadline for federal civil servants to verify their identities through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) portal. This move aims to eradicate ghost workers from the federal payroll.

A memo from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation emphasized that civil servants must provide their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), IPPIS number, and salary account number to complete the verification process.

The government warned that failure to comply with the verification process may result in suspension from the payroll. This directive is part of President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to promote transparency and accountability in the civil service.

In a related development, President Tinubu had previously ordered the refund of salaries paid to civil servants who relocated abroad but still received federal salaries. The supervisors and department heads of these individuals were also held accountable for their roles in the fraud.
