Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has declared an end to the state’s era of hardship, announcing plans for an Independent Power Project (IPP) at Abia State University (ABSU) in Uturu. The project, expected to generate at least 10 megawatts of electricity, will serve both the university and the surrounding Uturu community.
Speaking at a grand civic reception in his honor at Isuikwuato High School, Otti said, “The era of darkness is past. When light shines, darkness disappears. This initiative will energize the entire Uturu community.” He also welcomed Hon. Lucky Nwaeke Johnson, Mrs. Onyinye Rufus Obi, and others into the Labour Party during the event.
Otti highlighted the recent signing of the Abia State Electricity Law, which empowers the state to develop renewable and integrated power systems independently. He revealed that the Abia State Electricity Regulatory Agency will soon be inaugurated, led by an experienced professional returning from Canada.
Beyond electricity, the governor promised improvements in road infrastructure, noting that construction on Ezima Road and other projects will begin soon. Acknowledging the state’s historical challenges, Otti said, “We didn’t start from zero; we began from a negative point. However, we are reconstructing Abia and building strong foundations.”
Labour Party stakeholders, including Barr. Ken Ahia (SAN), praised Otti’s visible progress in Isuikwuato and pledged support for his 2027 re-election. Hon. Johnson called Otti a “leader with true commitment to transformation,” declaring Isuikwuato a Labour Party stronghold.
Isuikwuato Mayor Hon. Chinedu Ekeke vowed continued support, stating, “Your contributions will be remembered for years to come.” Hon. Ikechukwu Uwanna, the Attorney General, commended Otti’s administration for consistent salary and pension payments, while Hon. Felix Onwuka, Leader of the Isuikwuato Legislative Council, assured robust backing for the governor’s second-term bid.
