Honorable Uchenna Okoro Kalu, the youngest member of the Abia State House of Assembly, has been elected as the Majority Leader.

Kalu was elected to the position of Majority Leader during the assembly’s plenary session on Friday.

Kalu, who hails from Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State, gained attention from voters during the last general elections due to his youthful energy, visionary ideas, and dedication to community development.

At the age of 33, Kalu’s ascent to the prominent position followed his election as the representative for the Arochukwu State Constituency in the March 18 state elections.

Being a first-time lawmaker, Kalu secured a total of 7,197 votes, defeating candidates from the then ruling People’s Democratic Party (2,585 votes), All Progressives Congress (2,963 votes), All Progressives Grand Alliance (1,078 votes), and Young Progressives Party (1,729 votes), as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

As the Majority Leader, Kalu will play a crucial role in shaping the legislative agenda of the Abia State House of Assembly. His responsibilities include coordinating and guiding the activities of the majority party, ensuring effective communication and pursuit of their priorities and objectives.
